Education or experience: Should IT jobs focus more on candidate skills and less on degrees?
[ad_1]
In context: Today's dynamic technology landscape is forcing employers in the IT field to rethink their stance regarding college degrees. In many cases, hiring managers are realizing that degree requirements exclude large pools of highly qualified candidates, hindering their ability to fill critical vacancies. Welcome to our Apple Breakfast column, which includes all of the Apple news you missed last week in a handy bite-sized roundup. We call it Apple Breakfast because we think it goes great with a morning cup of coffee or tea, but it’s cool if you want to give it a read during lunch or dinner hours too. Deal or no deal? The last person you should ask for money advice, I would have thought, is a billionaire. I’m not convinced they understand the stakes . Such were my thoughts this week, while reading the news that Warren Buffett (at one point reportedly the wealthiest human on the planet, but now languishing down around fifth place) reckons the average iPhone user would refuse to switch to Android even if offered $10,000. A point of view whic...

A Telegram channel may be offering swatting-as-a-service with hundreds of incidents reported throughout the US
[ad_1]
A hot potato: Swatting has been a serious problem for years, resulting in unnecessary panic, wasted law enforcement resources, and at least two deaths. As a rash of swatting incidents hit the US over the last few months, a recent report connects dozens to one person running a swatting-for-hire service. On Thursday, Motherboard reported that a Telegram channel is offering to swat specific targets for pay using computerized voices. The service is possibly behind at least dozens, if not hundreds, of swatting incidents across the US. Swatting is when someone calls the police with a bogus threat of violence, prompting them to send armed officers to unsuspecting locations. The practice is difficult to investigate because perpetrators often spoof phone numbers and call outside local jurisdictions – sometimes from other countries. Law enforcement agenci...
