Parts of the basement of RFK Stadium briefly caught fireplace prior to being place out by local firefighters Tuesday night.

The previous residence of the NFL's Washington Redskins (now the Commanders) and MLB's Washington Nationals situated in the nation's capital caught fire soon after 5 p.m. nearby time Tuesday, according to the District of Columbia Fireplace and Emergency Healthcare Products and services Office.

"This evening around 5:20 DC Hearth and EMS units were being alerted to a hearth at RFK Stadium. They arrived to discover smoke coming from the building and more than the system of the next hour or so the units obtained inside the making and put the fireplace out. At this place the scene is risk-free." claimed DCFEMS Main John Donnelly Sr.

Donnelly also reported the fireplace was in a "basement amount" and was "really hard to get to."

No one was wounded in the hearth, and the trigger of the blaze is underneath investigation, in accordance to DCFEMS.

The stadium has been vacant due to the fact the D.C. United MLS crew moved to Audi Field in 2018 and is scheduled to be demolished quickly to make way for a new development by the city.
