Biden thanks Truss for support in Ukraine as UK prime minister steps down

In a statement, Biden said Washington would maintain close cooperation with the United Kingdom as they focus on global challenges. Truss resigned Thursday after six turbulent weeks in office.

“The United States and the United Kingdom are strong Allies and enduring friends — and that fact will never change,” Biden said. “We will continue our close cooperation with the U.K. government as we work together to meet the global challenges.”
Truss sent markets into turmoil with a now-abandoned economic plan that Biden last week called “a mistake.” A mutiny in Truss’s Conservative Party rocked the government in the hours before she stepped down.

Amid concerns about global economic uncertainty, Biden has lately convened his top economic advisers to discuss the turmoil in Britain, according to the New York Times.
Biden and Truss met in London last month for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth, days after the former British leader took office.
