LSU fined $250K after students storm the field following win against Alabama

Fans stormed the field Saturday night following the team's win against the University of Alabama 32 to 31 that had gone into overtime. Alabama is ranked tenth and LSU is ranked seventh. Tigers fans similarly stormed the field in its win against Ole Miss, then ranked seventh, on Oct. 22, which also resulted in a $250,000 fine.
They had all violated the Southeastern Conference's access to competition area policy, which explains that "for the safety of participants and spectators alike, at no time before, during, or after a contest, shall spectators be permitted to enter the competition area. It is the responsibility of each member institution to implement procedures to ensure compliance with this policy.”

SEC-imposed fines start at $50,000 for a first offense then go to $100,000, and then $250,000 for every subsequent offense. The proceeds will go to the conference's postgraduate scholarship fund.
The first time LSU violated this policy was in 2018 after its team won against the University of Georgia, which was ranked second at the time.
