After the news broke Wednesday that the owner of the Washington Commanders is thinking about selling the team, reports surfaced Thursday that billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is open to bidding on it.

Claims that Bezos is interested in the team were first floated by People on Thursday afternoon, which reported a source saying Bezos is "looking into buying the Washington Commanders." Soon after, the Washington Post reported that the Amazon executive chairman is toying with the idea of making a bid for the team, and it could include musician Jay-Z.

Notably, the Washington Post was purchased by Bezos in 2013 through Nash Holdings LLC, which he owns.

According to a Wednesday statement from the Washington Commanders, "Dan and Tanya Snyder and the Washington Commanders announced today that they have hired BofA Securities to consider potential transactions. The Snyders remain committed to the team, all of its employees and its countless fans to putting the best product on the field and continuing the work to set the gold standard for workplaces in the NFL."

Owner Dan Snyder has been embroiled in scandals as of late, ranging from alleged sexual misconduct to alleged threats against other NFL owners.

Recently, it was reported Snyder "has dirt" on other owners in the NFL and that he was even willing to "blow up" others in the league with this information. "They can't f*** with me," he purportedly said of the league.
